    Bugnet warmth

Enjoyed a 3 day campout this past weekend with temps in the high 30's...first cold weather hang since getting the mod #4 2QZQ zipper mod. I was surprised at how much warmer it felt in the hammock with the bugnet fully zipped shut... not sure if it helped block the wind, or provided a bit of heat retention, but was a noticeable temp difference with bugnet fully enclosed vs removed.

Really like this zipper mod to make the net fully stowable in the cinch sack, but easily accessible when needed.

The bug net does seem to block a little wind. Maybe that's the reason for the apparent heat retention?

I measured this during the past summer. After getting in the hammock and looking at the thermometer, the temp would raise between 2-4*C by the time I was tucked in ready to sleep.

I've noticed this too. That's why I really have only put my bugnet away (2QZQ Mod #4) a couple of times, usually spring and fall. Summer the bugnet stays out to block the bugs...winter it stays out to block the wind/provide a bit more warmth.

My DIY Fronkey style made from Ikea curtains does keep in the heat and I have found that in about 40' temps I have to uncover to not overheat!

I used my DIY Puffer underquilt and Topquilt and was wearing shorts and a T-shirt

    Netting

If you've ever used a tent before-even those with full screen sides-they are Warm! The netting is not that breathable..but it works to your advantage in cold temps...The netting on the HH adds warmth/cuts the wind-Add a Topcover and you will REALLY notice how warm it can be..and the netting keeps the topcover steady against the hammock when the wind is blowing...
