yeah its pretty noisy but such a small gripe for such a nice piece, i would not have even noticed but the wife thought i had robbed wal mart of all the plastic shopping bags, i am thinking of securing my ridgeline much like you do for the blckbird, 3/4 webbing 15 ft long and some ring buckles and a biner anyone else do this or use this system???

I was thinking about doing the same thing kayaknut. The hammock is so easy to set up with them, why not the tarp too? Interested to see what the experienced crew thinks about this idea.

Not sure what you are getting at. Do you mean a set of webbing and ring buckles to the tarp and another to the hammock? Wouldn't see why it wouldn't work, just weigh a couple more ozs.

A guy line around the tree and back to the hammock, tied in a slip knot works for me.

Purchased the AirCore guyline/microlock kit from BPL. The system allows quick adjustment from the 8' max (length of lines) to 0'. Liked it so much I worked out a simple ridge line system. Used the exisiting ridge line that comes as part of JRB line set and mini-locs. Ultralight, reliable & simple cleating system for quick & simple rigging and adjustment. Just make sure you attach the mini lock (stopper knot)close to the tarp to prevent self de-cleating. Placing the cleat at the tree end creates an angle in the line that pulls the cleated line loose. Leave enough room for skins. See photo for better explanation.

Once rigged the Spinn tarp is not really noisy. Unless it rains. Might not be really noisier. Just a different pitch of noise.

i dont find it to be noisy once pitched, only makes noise if rubbing against another object (or itself)
this was a quick trial pitch on unlevel ground just to see how it looked over the WBBB. this is the Standard size, looks like it will work great.

I just spent six nites under a SpinnUL macat dlx, three of them quite rainy, zero condensation, zero "misting" (and it rained HARD one night). It does sound crinkly when you are unfurling it, but once set up it isn't noticeable to me. I think mine has "softened up" in that regard after a week of use/stuffing. If you are aiming for a lower base weight and don't already have the tarp you want, this is a fairly cheap upgrade to lose four ounces or so.
