Hats off to all you DIYers...

Last night I made a "quick" little under quilt for my hammock with some cheap-o material so I could get a little experience before moving on to the expensive stuff. Let me just say that it was easy, but certainly not pretty. I made the ugliest under quilt I have ever seen.

That's why I have to tip my hat to all the DIY geeks who make some very nice gear. It ain't hard to make, unless you want it to look good.

Agreed! My first project was a sleeping bag underquilt mod. As you said, function was priority, not looks. My first is still in use, as a loaner UQ.

And welcome to the diy geek squad! Its contagious

Haha true. Although every time I undertake a new project it is always ugly, the seconds always come out a bit prettier

It is easier to overlook someone else's mistakes when you don't know what they are. I am always harder when judging stuff that I have made than other people's gear.

So I bet it might not be as bad as you think it is.

Hats off to all you DIYers...

I read on HF somewhere that wavy stitches confuse the bears so you don't get eaten. I can testify that it's true. Ever since I started making gear I have NOT been eaten by a bear. Ugly is good.

If your DIY is too pretty no one will believe you made it yourself.

Straight stitches are highly over rated.

Does the "ever since" imply that you had been eaten before you made this marvelous change to DIY?
