    VIDEO: SoCal>San Gabriel's>Bear Creek Overnight

Quick overnight on a new trail.
A couple buddies and I made a quick midweek overnight up the Bear Creek trail; just 1 mile in along the San Gabriel River's West Fork to the trailhead.

I was worried that the relatively easy access would mean it was a heavily trafficked trail. Boy was I wrong, I can't even begin to count how many times we wandered off the "main trail" onto little game trails or different washes. Everything was pretty well overgrown and very rocky.
At least it was nearly impossible to truly lose our way, the entire trail was in a steep canyon. We may have pinballed our way upstream, but we were always headed in the right direction.

We went about 3 miles upstream before water became scarce; we continued up to another stream fork about a mile up but all the water was still underground. Headed back about half a mile to make camp and made a water run with the just Platy's. My friend went a little Bear Gryll's on the way down and managed to lose a platy cap with all his rock hopping. I had to improvise a cork. We also snuck in a bit of foraging and collected some amazingly good prickly pears.

Campsite was under a gorgeous HUGE oak and I had to get a little creative with my hang... Under a low and long arm of the tree. Felt like I was trying to levitate my WBBB. I tried sleeping in my Big Agnes with an air pad for the first time; I think I'll stick with foam pads :-/ Until I can afford an underquilt.

On the way out we filled up a garbage bag of little at the Lower Bear Camp, it had been thrashed by Monster & Jager drinking @$$#$.
Packed it out along with our trash (which barely filled a ziploc).

Enjoy the vid. Used it as my excuse to finally start learning Adobe Premier.

Forgot to mention; that nice patch of "fall color" at :45 is actually a huge bush of pure poison oak. It was everywhere on this trail. Definitely limited some of the hanging options.
