    $12 3/4 UQ possibly?

I bought this womans down coat at a local goodwill for $12 today. It seems to be quality down, but the tag is faded so I'm not sure the feather content. The coat is very light though even though the fabric is heavy compared to my HG UQ. I'm thinking I can cut the sleeves off and turn those into booties, and then cut the zippers off and add in shock cord to make it a short UQ. Problem is that I don't have a thread injector. Has anyone done something similar? Am I better off harvesting the down and starting new? I also picked up a very nice lands end down vest that is 20% feather/80% down I could use to start a project.

It's definitely possible, people have been making UQs out of JCP Puffer jackets for a while now.

Try it, you will always wonder if you don't. My guess is that it will work pretty well, and nothing but trial and error will define it's lower limits.

As soon as I find a way to sew it I will post the findings. After pondering on it last night I think I will just try to use it how it is made. One of these days I'll start one from scratch but that'll be a while from now.

I've wanted to try this......mostly because it looks like a nifty way to get my hands on a pair of down sleeves, and try to fix em up like a set of JRB's.

why not go back to the Goodwill and see if they have any thread injectors kicking around? I got mine at the Salvation Army for $22.00
