Fantastic photos. You really captured the essence of the section of trail that you did. I always like to see what others do on the trail.
Happy birthday and thanks for taking us along on my favorite trail. It seemed like perfect weather for a hike.
Looks like it was a beautiful hike. Glad that nobody had any serious issues on trail, and that the foliage was as nice as it looks.
You're right, that ascent up Heartbreak Ridge is definitely an...interesting...time. On the other hand, coming up out of the Horsepasture River is definitely on my list of, "Well, that sucked," climbs that I've done. That and climbing out of the Laurel Valley in the dark; rhododendron is not nice when coupled with mud and limited visibility.
Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I remember going up steps - the ones with the bench in the middle of the climb - and getting to the top of them thinking, well, that Heartbreak Ridge thing wasn't too bad, only to find out later it was actually Heartbreak Ridge Jr. Didn't find HR to be all that bad, just a tedious uphill road walk mostly - the mountain goat on Meth apparently has a Jeep!
I would say the worst of the trip was the climb out of Horsepasture. Yeah, the steps are spectacularly long looking at them, but they seem to pass quickly with minor pauses along the way. No, the rest of that section for over 2.5miles was just a constant up, with some flat spots here and there - that would be the bridges.

Thanks or sharing the pictures.
Great write-up and pictures, looked like a lot of fun.
And nice trail magic!

I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.
I'm up for a winter Foothills hike.
