    Color of MacCat tarps

I continue to hear great things about MacCat Tarps, but I have one question that leaves me wondering. Are all MacCat tarps a light grey?

I ordered a Speer Winter Tarp for my wife last year. It works great but I was disappointed for it to arrive in an almost vibrant grey. It just stands out surprisingly bright from a distance. I had expected one in brown like I had seen at a hang and which is shown on the Speers website.

So now, as I look at a MacCat tarp to replace the olive drab Integral Designs tarp I currently use, I'm still hesitating. That grey just looks awfully bright, and I prefer to try to blend in as much as possible when I'm out there. Are there other colors for the MacCat? Are the tarps whatever color is in stock when you order?

    Thanks for any help.

Not all of his tarps are gray. He has made black ones too, among others.

You can contact Brian directly to see what colors he has on hand. He can order different colors, or if you already have some silnylon, he's been known to make tarps from the customer's material.

I think mine is silver. Haven't had a chance to hang it but it doesn't look white.

While some colors are less broadcasting than others there is no solid color tarp that won't stand out very easily against a forest backdrop. A large black wall is as noticeable to me as a solid white wall. Olive green is a bit better but it still sticks out like a sore thumb when anywhere near to it. As soon as the vegetation opens enough that I can see my JRB cattail brown tarp I see it front and center. Just doesn't jive with the pattern in the woods and your eye will naturally be drawn to that.

I agree that some colors blend with the surroundings better than others and I would prefer a greener or more brown color on the MacCat instead of gray or black but nothing but except my Clark XL camo tarp blends well enough to really feel people might not notice it at normal distances off the trail when the forest is leafed out.

Is the gray of the Speers darker or lighter than the MacCat?

I didn't think I would like my gray MacCat when I ordered it, but it is a nice color and more subtle than I would have thought. I don't really care for my friends coyote brown MacCat, it is too dull. I can't stand blue, yellow, purple, or red tarps, that's for sure. Gray is a fine color for myself, and it matches well with most any color of hammock.

I used to own a grey McCat. Now I use a white DIY to be replaced by grey when I get the time. I can say white is in no way stealthy. It stands out even in winter. The grey is a really good stealth color. I went with my dad on a trip last year. I hung the white tarp 10 yards away from the grey one. 20 yards away at dusk it was very hard to see the grey tarp. The white one stuck out.

Like others said, I heard the same of the black tarp. IMHO, I think grey is hard to beat for all around stealth over all conditions.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?
