I love snow. I LOVE using my snowshoes. Unfortunately it's hard to get enough snow to need them, even up north last year.

Coffee is 100x more enjoyable when its 12°!

I usually see less people on the trail. Ironically, I sometimes see MORE people when I head up to Michigan because, well, they're hardcore and don't seem to bellyache and complain like most people around my neck of the woods.

For me, I grew up winter camping; so cold weather camping is pretty much all I know. My dad used to say it was for snake and tick evasion, but I think it is because he liked the cold. It was fine by me, I've always liked it too. Too bad I live in Guam now. You guys make me miss seasons..........

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.

what is this cold and snow of which you speak?

seriously, the temps for our "winter" don't usually get below the 40s with occasional drops in the 30s for a "normal" winter. I've been contemplating a 0* Incubator, but that would probably spend most of it's time in my storage shed since to use it I'd have to travel hours north. Not that I wouldn't mind the travel, but it's hard to justify the expense. I'll probably stick with either a 20* or 40* Incubator instead.

Still, I'm not sure I'd like winter camping since I really don't like being cold.

Isn't it just an extended version of the initial premise of camping?
The premise being that first you deprive yourself of a lot of customary luxuries of regular life. Then when camping, the few luxuries that you do have or obtain after some effort (warm coffee, warm feet, quiet, outdoor beauty, bunch of people around you that are as deranged as you are) are so incredibly enjoyable, probably more so than the multitude of luxuries that you are used to in regular life.

I travel and camp year around but in the winter months I tend to stay closer to home. So what is this thing called "cold & snow" of which you speak ?

Winter camping is nothing my parents would compete with our friends to see who could go longest without turning on the heat once you hit December in MI there were times when I was sure it was no different inside than outside .

Besides why buy a sleeping bag with a 5 degree survival rating if you don't ever plan to test it out.
