    The Green Lantern!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey guys,

Here is a pic of my new DIY bugnet hammock. I made it a bottom entry so that I wouldn't have to sew a zipper on it. It weighs next to nothing, but I have not officially weighed it yet. It is basically a speer hammock, with a sewn on bugnet. The bugnet is held up by a structural ridgeline, so it is half Hennessy, half Speer. I call it the Green Lantern, because I already had all the material, I think it cost me around $7 to make. I tried it out on the trail this weekend with my DIY 5oz Climashield XP underquilt, and it is wonderful, oh how comfortable it is

Nice hammock. I'd like to learn more about your underquilt. Your own design or did you find instructions on the forum?

Pretty easy, 2 pieces of fabric, Climashield inbetween, all sewed together

I cannot remember the dimensions off hand (Maybe 72"X42"-48"). The ends have a channel sewn in so that some shockcord can be added to cinch up the ends. Then for tieouts are sewn on the corners so that it can be attached under the hammock. It is really not that hard, my wife made this one really fast for me one morning before I was heading out for a couple of days. Becauseshe did it so fast, it is not pretty, but it is warm

ok, a few questions and a few observations...

    obs:
    1. kick-awesome looking setup
    2. RonM, good jooorrrrb on the avatar... i dig it =)

    q's:
    1. how well does the underquilt compress? I've been looking at buying some XP and was curious about all the specs
    2. is it really as easy as "two pieces, XP in the middle, all sewn up"... no "baffles" to support the climashield (i know it comes in rolls)?
    3. with a bottom entry, how did you reinforce the bottom slit for factoring stress in?
    3. if you have done it yet, what was the final weight of each (hammock/net, UQ, both together)

    thanks a ton!
    looking forward the reply

    Cheers!

Hi there Preachaman, speaking of UQs, check out the "wet UQ" threads. I thought you might have some good insight after your trip during the Ozark Deluge! ( sorry to Hijack, that's all I'll say about that! )
