    Desoto National Forest

I was checking out the Black Creek Trail and I wondered if anyone knows what kind of shape its in? I get everything from the forest is closed due to Katrina, to 11 miles impassible. Anyone have first hand knowledge? Thanks

Hi. I'm not far from Desoto, maybe an hour. I haven't been there in years, but it should be good to go. I'll ask my 4wheelin' neighbor down the street. He gets out that way pretty often. Send me a PM if you don't hear back in a day or three.

I asked my friend about Black Creek. He said he never heard of it. Probably because its a hiking trail, and he is into 4wheelin'. I think the area would be fine for a hike. I actually have Black Creek on my radar for a hike in the near future.
Are you still located in Jersey? Mississippi is quite a ways away.

Yup, Jersey. Was looking for a spot to hike with a buddy from New Orleans area. If you ever get over there I'd gladly read your trip report

We hiked from the trailhead on hwy 29 southeast for about 7 miles. That stretch is fine.

    This was last month.

Definitely a maybe I'm thinking about coming down in March. What's it like that time of year weather-wise?

March can go either way: cold, rainy, pleasant, or none of the above. Usually, the coldest temps are behind us by March. I would be optimistic about March

Drifter, I hear Black Creek is great for Kayaking. There is a canoe/kayak service that will rent kayaks and pick you up at the end of your trip. My wife and I are considering buying some kayaks, but will likely rent some for out first trip to see how well she does.
