    Deam Wilderness - Southern Indiana

Had some perfect fall weather so I wandered around the Deam Wilderness this past weekend. I took my tarp but didn't even set it up with no chance of rain.

(sorry, no time to make thumbnails)

    Hiking in at night

First camp in the pines near pond

Pretty nasty water source for my second day

    nicely done---thanks for sharing!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Good getaway markr6.....good pics, my favourite is the morning sunrise through the trees, coffee from the hammock shot.
Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.

Thanks for those pics. I miss the Deam a great deal. I grew up in that area and spent many a night and day in those woods.

Getting ready for the Deer camp hang this weekend.....and the next and the next

Clark Co. looks just as nice, but I'm thinking I'd still rather just be roaming the Deam. This last month has really been nice to us. Could use a little more running water, but it's been beautiful nonetheless.

    Thanks for taking us there

One photo I should have taken but didn't was during my hike in at night. There was an area about 2'x2' where something cleared away the leaves and scratched up the mud. I assumed it was a deer but didn't see any tracks. The scratches were narrow and didn't look like they were from the hooves of a deer, but I don't know much about this stuff. There were probably about 20 marks in the mud about 2" long each, maybe 1/2" deep. The leaves were wet and looked to be very recent.

Would it have been something else?

Without seeing it, it's hard to tell. Could be any number of critters, really. However, given the time of year and the area, I think it was very likely a deer scrape. Was there a low hanging branch over the area? If so, I'd bet dollars to donuts it was from a buck.
