Hammocking Merit Badge

New to the forum, but I am sure there are a number of scouts out there. I was tossing the idea of creating a merit badge for hammocking to BSA. Just some ideas that you guys would add.

LNT benefits
Knots, prusik, whipping, marlin spike, etc
Build one of either and use
Hammock
Whoopie sling
Underquilt
Tarp

Camp for 10 different nights using one of the items you made
Demonstrate knowledge of different types of hammocks and history
Discuss and demonstrate 3 different types of suspensions including benefits and negatives of each


I am sure there is stuff I am missing, but this surely would outweigh chess, robotics, and gaming merit badges that have been introduced in the last few years.

Let me know if anyone has any input or ideas. I know there are lots out there and some with BSA connections to get this to happen.

Do a search for hammock camping merit badge. Someone here has already done what you are looking to do. Not to say that this is the best one but it can give you either a starting point or have done the work already for what you are looking to do.

Oh yeah, since I too am learning the ropes, what thread is the best all purpose for the hammock projects? I figured black as a color, but what type .

Güttermans is one of the best ones that most of use. However really any 100% polyester thread will work.
