If you leave the straps attached in you skins or bishop bag it is nice to be able to tell at a glance where the head and foot are. Sometimes you want to face a certain way. Or you want to hang one end higher than the other. The direction is esspecially nice to know with a stock HH cause you can only get in from one end. I am always thinking about where I want my feet to be when I get up in the middle of the night. I use a color coded biner system to mark mine.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Thanks, Ramblinrev. I've always just let the strap for my head-end dangle out of the bishop bag an inch or so for that purpose. Was thinking there was a "left/right" or "up/down" or ??? orientation on the straps that I was completely missing.

Hey Hike4WD,
My wife and I use a pair of mirror image Blackbirds that have zippers on opposite sides.
Mine has the zipper on the right and my wife's is on the left when laying on your back.
Brandon sent these in two different colored bags to help differentiate them.
In our setup we often hang from the same trees and orient them such that both zippers end up to the inside.
This allows us to easily reach across and share gear or make basic contact throughout the night.
This also allows us to share one ( Larger) tarp.
Being able to easily tell one hammock for the other and the head end from the foot end, comes in handy for us.
When hanging solo, I sometime wish for a particular view or will hang my head end such that I have greater visibility in a particular direction
I like to watch sunrise from my hammock and often hang so that the morning Sun shines in one side.
The Blackbirds have a shelf feature on the side opposite the zipper. This acts as a wall of fabric and restricts your view out of one side relative the view from the opposite side.
All of the above influenced my decision to pre identify the head end.
The supplied stuff sacks are double ended and can be opened from either/both ends. I do not however leave my straps dangling out of the bag but prefer rather to stow them completely inside.
A quick peek inside either end lets me know what end of the hammock I have to hand.
Cheers,
Darrel
Hey, Darrell ... thanks for the explanation.
I guess I'll never have that problem as,
1) My wife doesn't go backpacking with me and
2) ... well I guess there isn't a second reason.

I somehow missed this thread and never ordered. I was just looking for an alternative to the 2 Camp carabiners and finally discovered it. If there are any extras, I'd like to get 4 for my two WBBB's. If not, is there going to be a second wave in the near future?
