I'm from exit 8 in NJ, Piscataway area.
I saw there's a group hang on thanksgiving weekend. Wish I could make it, but ain't gonna happen.
Next one for sure, if anything it's a good place to see options before I go too overboard.

I just spent a great week in NJ last month, hiking and hanging on the Appalachian Trail. Welcome to the forum. Enjoy!
Advice? Good or bad? Hmmmm.
My sage counsel is don't ever expect,-- nor hope!,-- to reach a static state of "perfection." You'll always be tweaking gear, food, clothing, transportation, locale, season, and etc., ad infinitum. That way, you will never feel you have fallen short and can always justify the next trip ... and buying new stuff!

Thanks to all the replies. I hope to make an event this coming spring.
In the mean time I will glean all I can, and try to offer experience where I can.
Thanks all!!
Don't wait for spring - there's the NJ Winter Hang in January. It's car camping and somebody can hook you up with proper insulation. Just gotta ask.
Thanks SSurfer. I may take you up on that.
Hello and welcome from NY. Hope you enjoy yourself on the forums!

I've done a night out on the AT here in NJ, Kitattiny Ridge (sp?) and lots of "setting up for lunch" runs around the Sourland Mountain area.
You've got a lot of reading avail on this site...enjoy!

“Stories set in the Culture in which Things Went Wrong tended to start with humans losing or forgetting or deliberately leaving behind their terminal. It was a conventional opening, the equivalent of straying off the path in the wild woods in one age, or a car breaking down at night on a lonely road in another.”
