Straight out of Clayton.
Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.
I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.
body warm = warmer feet and hands
in the UK looking for trees about 14foot apart
One idea is to use a down jacket as a footbox. Check the photo in my thread from last night. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=84308
I'd agree with the maxim that if I am warm, my hands and feet will be warm...
I agree that having a small piece of insulation under my feet helps. I learned that from one of Shug's videos. I put it inside my foot box.
I'd add to the discussion, that taking your pants off would also help. It heats up the inside of the quilt. Old army adage is that if I sleep in my clothes, I will be cold. I think that Mountain Man reminded me of that last winter at a hang when the temps dropped to the single digits.

down booties without socks are the best bet for the cold feet.
A week before a trip, I spray my feet morning and night with anti-perspirant. It cuts down on my foot sweat and keep my socks and footwear drier. For winter trips, I use antiperspirant cream - it seems more effective. Dry is warm.
Don't listen to octothorpesarus - he doesn't even own shoes.
I agree with what he says, though. My feet were always cold in winter, but last trip (18 degrees) I dumped the socks, dumped the down booties, and went commando with nothing on my feet. My feet were gloriously warm.
I don't know if we know what we're talking about; more what works for us. I have sweaty feet, so my theory is that socks and booties localize the moisture from my feet. Whereas when the feet are naked, I have the entire footbox (maybe even the entire topquilt) for that moisture to dissipate. When I woke up with no foot cover, my feet were bone dry and warm as could be.
Some people like vapor barrier socks - I have yet to try them.
