What keeps me happy and comfortable and I wouldn't want to camp with out it.
I would say TP and Gold Bond!!
Oh...hammock gear....I would have to go with the SuperFly tarp.
As this is the only item besides the hammock that goes every time.

My one piece of treasured gear...my Becker BK9 blade.. King of the Beckers.
The Becker 9 is really an excellent knife. The blade will do all of those things that they tell you never to do with a knife. Chop, pry, hammer, whatever. Hard to beat carbon steel. It is always razor sharp and honing is just a matter of running on the Sharpmaker and leather strop.
Helps clear out and prep a hammock area in no time.
The cons are minor. For my hand, the handle could better, so I went with an aftermarket set of handles...and had a coyote tan kydex sheath made for her...perfection!
This knife was worth every penny I paid and outperforms some more expensive products and in spite of the weight penalty,...always goes along for the ride.
Amsteel Blue, my sewing machines that let me make what I want, when I want and anything sharp.
So far I'd have to say my JRB MW4 is my most appreciated piece of hammock camping gear that is not a hammock.
As far as my favorite piece of general outdoor gear. I'd have to say my Marmot Windshirt, I've had it a few years now and it just gets tons of use on and off the trail. 60 bucks well spent.
...Tell me no lies, make me a happy man ...
My JRB Greylock 4 UQ is the bees knees!
Second would be my Dales Pale Ale stove given to me by silversurfer!
Gonna give my Superfly the nod here. Like others have said besides my hammock it is the one piece of gear that is never substituted for another. And my Zippo...love my zippo.
My two 50ft lengths of 5mm cordage/climbing rope and their prusiks.
It is this equipment that allows me to hang when I have to get creative due to the lack of suitable trees or other tie in points here in SW Texas.
For a visual reference, picture a single large live oak tree sitting in the middle of an otherwise barren pasture. Now get creative with the rope.
Sometimes I envy Bats. I wish I could hang by my toes.
