    WB Cloudburst Pole "Mod"

I didn't want the strong forces on the pullouts that bowed straight poles apply so I tried the 145* fitting from Quest and it worked out very nicely...

The pole ends are girth hitched with small Zing It soft shackles. Continuous loops could be used as well...

Each pole has the typical internal shock cord and is made of:

    2 - 18" .344" Nano poles with inserts

    2 - 18" .344" Nano poles without inserts

    1 - 145* Arch fitting

    2 - #4038 end fitting

I can see your concern with straight poles, but is this rig compatible with porch mode?

ironic I just posted a question to the use of putting an angle into the pole mods.
looks good, I am more curious to having it under a tarp and see if water or more importantly snow will slide off better

This was my first test setup with these poles. After posting this thread, it occurred to me that it probably would not be compatible with porch mode. Bummer. Looks like I have some more playing to do.

What would happen if you rotate 90* in and attached to the opposite tieout? Or are they too short for that?

The poles may just flop over when going to porch mode and allow it (probably wishful thinking). I'll give it a try later today.

Oh goody...it's works wonderfully in porch mode. It sure wasn't working out that way in my mind last night.

    Set up...

    IMG_4090 (Medium).JPG

    Poles attached...

    IMG_4091 (Medium).JPG IMG_4094 (Medium).JPG

Porch mode, left side on fully extended hiking pole, right side suspended higher from a tree (corner is 5'-6" high)...

The only negative I noticed is that in porch mode the low side is no longer pulled out for extra hammock clearance.

this is a negative of all external pole mods correct? or is this specific to your setup?
I was figuring I would just continue to bring a piece of line for the backside pull out and either tie it to a tree or stake it to the ground, as I do now when in porch mode.
...Tell me no lies, make me a happy man ...

This is my first pole mod, but I think any mod attached to the side pull outs would act the same way.
