before buying my first stakes for my swt I researched here on the hammock forums and bought the groundhogs, they've worked great ever since. I don't do any serious long distance backpacking so weight wasn't a concern, but doing the job right the first time is.

    For holding power the Groundhog.
But as I seem to be able to bend ANY stake with ease, even in VERY soft ground, I just buy the wire stakes in bulk. The dirt in my back yard is 2" - 5" topsoil over soft clay, I have two groundhogs in a general U shape from pushing them in to that soft stuff.
Granted I also have about 10 wire stakes that are more or less U shaped, but they are much cheeper, & last nearly as long as the Y stakes did.

I still carry the 2 Groundhogs I have left, but those are saved for "special occasions"
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

    GoingGear.com Tri-Stakes

Ground Hogs for any tie-outs. I have some basic aluminum ones that I'll use to tack the back edge of the tarp to the ground (I rig a lean-to) if the soil permits. If I had to choose only one stake it would be the ground hog.
