Second hammock for gear storage?

While I agree on the gear hammock I am curious about why one would take one's panniers off the bike. I would think most of the bulk would go to set up camp. Even if the panniers come off they will be essentially flat like an empty pack.

Rear panniers normally hold most of my camping equipment. Front panniers are clothes, first aid kit, and other stuff. I just feel more secure if my gear is strung up in a hammock above or near me.

With panniers, would it be possible to run a line along one side of your hanging trees. Then hook the panniers on the line ?

I use a cheap DIY for my gear and to set up when I get to camp. I sit in it to rest on the trail or when I get to camp. It is no big deal if it gets dirty just wash it. I hang it near the fire too so I can sit in it by the fire and do not have to worry about sparks. My kids also love it when they are watching me set up their stuff. Yep I always take an extra.
