    What would you bring?

I am just curious as to what everyone would do if you only had enough space to bring one piece of gear for your overnight hang. (Your hammock has already made it in your pack.....) Would you bring a tarp? Underquilt? Sleeping pad? Down boots? Basically, what can you not live without on your trips?

I know conditions change your choice, so possibly give the conditions in mind when you answer!!

summer - and I mean real hot summer temps where its 80 degrees at 10pm... a nice large tarp for dealing with thundershowers

3 season - could certainly get by on most overnite trips with just an UQ with sufficient clothes on you to keep you warm on top.

winter - TQ... might have to go to the ground or hang in duff.

I'd never go on a trip without a tarp. Shelter in any situation is the first line of defense against the elements in any season. Sun, wind, rain, and snow will all be mitigated by your tarp. Having said that though I couldn't just bring one item. They all work together especailly insulation and tarps in cold temperatures.

My car keys, because if I get there and find that all I have is my pack, hammock and one other item, I'm going home.

Night temp over 70 degrees: Tarp to stay dry.
Night temp under 70 degrees: UQ to stay warm.
Night temp under 70 degrees and rain: SOL. Bring a credit card for the motel.

Tarp -- in a pinch one could wrap the tarp around the hammock, fill it with leaves, and you've got an insulated pod. But getting wet ...
