What do you do with the poles?

    Nice find headchange!

Not free, but you can pick these things up all day long on Craigslist; you just have to be willing to take the rope hammock that's attached to it. The hammock and stand usually go for about $20 up to $50.

    Still, not free. That kicks!

If they are tubular rigid poles you can use them for a bridge hammock end. If they are the fiberglass dome tent poles you can use them as spreader bars for your tarp.

    Good find!

I keep all the freeStuff Craigslist sites in my state bookmarked so I can check them a few times a day. I see hammock stands on there from time to time. Got a really nice singer sewing machine in the cabinet for free!

That's exactly what I wanted, the raw materials. I was hoping it had a large enough rain-fly that I could use it for a tarp.
The sides of the tent could be used for some backpack experiments that I have in mind.

don't forget to check out freecycle.org You can get a lot of things plus give a lot of stuf away. doesn't matter if it is working or not. Someone will take it.
