I hadn't seriously considered taking the Blackbird to tassie. Has it been done successfully??
If I did, I'd take the thermarest instead of the under quilt in case I ended up in a hut due to bad weather.

Dave the use of hammocks on the Overland is pretty much frowned upon given the nature of the environment and the number of visitors. Hence why they have huts and tent platforms to minimise impact. It has been done by a member of this forum, in winter though.

    Enjoy the walk.

    Heya Dave,
Apart from a few alpine type walks that due to fragile flora like Simon mentions hammocks are not ideal, there are plenty of trees in Tassie. I've been using a WBBB for over a year now and loving it. No problems.

    Cheers

    Thanks guys,

I'll stick with the tent then.
What about a lounger? Would a compact hammock be ok, or better off with something like the helinox chair one?
Or is a lounger over indulgent on the OT?

    Thanks in advance

Your call Dave, I have not walked the OT yet, but from what I have heard you may get more usage from the chair, it won't be as comfy as the hammock though. I do know one guy who used a hammock as a lounger on the track. It would be quite easy to make up a small hammock yourself for lounging if you have the desire. I made a small hammock for my kids and it is a great to kick back in.

I think the grand trunk nano is the smallest/lightest lounging hammock, the grand trunk ul is very close to the same but under $20. You can set it up as a chair or lounger as well.
