    Hammock gear 50 burrow?

Debating on getting me a burrow 50 TQ or making a DIY 1 layer synthetic TQ out of climashield apex and momentum50 fabric. I believe they would be around the same weight. Any opinions on which would be better?warmer?

Well I would personally take down over synthetic anyday. I love my 50deg burrow in multicam and argon inner. it's very light and packs down way small. It serves me fine on 80% of my outings. I can't weigh in on the synthetic packablilty but I'd guess it wouldn't pack as good. Also weigh the benefits of not having to put it together yourself then again it might be rewarding if thats your thing.

Funny I posted a similar question about apex in the general forum and got opposite responses. Everyone seemed to love the apex quilts. One guy even said he is getting rid of all his down and replacing with apex. Regardless it seems as if people pay a premium for down for a reason. They aren't just doing it to waste money. I believe if I had a synthetic quilt and a down quilt both same weight. Both same warmth. I would grab the down. I love the way it drapes and "breathes". Even when it's super muggy outside and I'm overheating in my 40 TQ I tend to overheat BEFORE I sweat. That means that the air inside my quilt is somehow not as humid as outside. At least it feels like that. I remember always getting sweaty and throwing off my synthetic 58 degree sleeping bag. Anyone else feel that down "breathes" better than synthetic?

I actually think the opposite. I think synthetic is a better choice when it's muggy, mine breathes great. I have down for winter and synthetic for summer.

    actual weight of Burrow 50?

Can someone post the weight of the Burrow 50, please? Adam's website say it has 5 oz down, but unlike the extensive details of the other TQ's (40, 20, 0 in various lengths and options), the Burrow 50 does not have that info. Trying to decide if there is a big weight differential between the sewn-through Burrow 50 and the baffled Burrow 40. Thanks.

I have the burrow 40 and I talked to Adam on the phone. I recall him saying that the 50 burrow is around 9 oz. I'm not 100% sure though. Find the shell weight of the 40 burrow then add 5 oz. then minus the weight of baffles. Adam will even put less down if you want. He can put only 3-4 oz if you don't need the full 50 degree rating. The final weight will really depend on what dimensions you get but overall i think the quilt will be among the lightest you can find. Only it can be custom dimensions. The enigma from enlightened equipment is around 9 oz for a 50 degree so I'm pretty sure the burrow 50 is 9-10 oz. I will call him tomorrow and ask maybe.

I was right. It weighs 9 oz with the new argon fabric and 5 oz of down. This saves 3.5 oz over the 1.1 ripstop that Adam used before. Check out this article. NOTE- this quilt is 10 oz because he added 1 oz overstuff.
