    Symibird Help

A couple of weeks ago, I started making a 9' Symibird using TheXringHunt's plans. Everything was going fairly well (other than my inability to sew a straight line) until I tried to attach the bugnet to the hammock body. The bugnet is approximately 4" short of the overall length of the hammock.

Has anyone experienced this before? My initial thought is the arc lengths of my curves were longer than the plan's and therefore my bugnet is shorter, but given the lengths of the curves I think this is highly unlikely. I also double checked all my measurements before I cut the bugnet, so I don't think that's the issue either.

    Thanks for the help.

    Sincerely,
    Dave-O

I think several DIYers have reported pinning the net to the hammock/zipper before cutting.

You might add a strip of ripstop to the net to extend it.

I saw that on some of XTrekker's and Lost_Biker's guides.

I guess I could also just sew the bugnet on and just sew the front part of the hammock together and then grosgrain over it.

I went back and looked at the actual lengths of the all the curves and think the long curve in the bugnet is actually a little shorter than required. By my calculations in needs to be 80-7/8" long instead of 75-11/16".

The first one I started a couple of weeks ago was a complete learning hammock since it was the most complicated sewing project that I've ever tried before. I going to try and finish it this weekend to see what else I can learn from it. Before starting a new one with the new material I just got from DIYGearSupply.

9' foot pdf shows a net rl length of 108". Which is in the 83% range.

Are you sure you got the right pdf? Or are you building an 8' hammock, which would be in 80" rl area??

You can hem on more net or fabric to salvage this diy hammock. Or get more netting,

Edit: I see your talking about the single longside net dimension.
