Assuming the same shell materials, and a sewn-through construction on the down quilt, a 2.5 APEX quilt (good to 50*, no sweat) will cost you an extra 1/2 oz or so in insulation. (This assumes a 1.3" loft for the down quilt, dimensions of 72" x 48", 13 baffles, and 850 FP down.)
Now, it ain't gonna compress nearly as well as the down quilt will, but them's the breaks when working with synthetics.

To be completely honest...I'm very in love with down. Sometimes when i put my TQ on it already feels warm. I love the way down drapes over the body. And does anyone else notice that down seems to never feel "muggy" as if it really deals with body moisture well. It feels warm yet breathable. Anyone out there who can't seem to part from down? I mostly want to try synthetic because I love diy dimension stuff. I really like that with the apex I could trim to an exact fit for me. But **** does down feel so good.
