    Climashield apex users

Anyone out there use climashield apex insulation? Mostly wondering how it compares to down. Weight for weight. Going for a 50 summer quilt and im on the fence between down and apex. It would be nice to here from someone who has tried both. I especially would like to know of its durability in the long haul. Does it lose loft after years?
    So basically:
How does it compare to down in warmth to weight?
    Does it last long?

I don't know about a comparison but i made my own summer quilt with Clima Apex. I made it in a woobie style. Its light and packs down well and the big thing is it was about a quarter the price of a down quilt. I had it down into the fifties but fifty degree's might be pushing it. Would depend on the person.

I made a 5.0 apex and 2.5 apex top quilts. The 2.5 is good for me down to the mid 40's and the 5.0 I have had down to the lower 20's with no problems. I think for the savings vs. Down and the lack of having to be so careful the apex is definitely worth it. It is also far easier to work with than down as far as construction if you are doing diy.

Arrowhead Equip has 6 oz Apex Climashield Insulation in their quilts. $100 for the 3/4 length Jarbridge quilt. I'm a DIY guy, but for that price it was worth it to me to get one form a cottage vendor.
The dampness of Hawaii would steer me away from using down.

I love my apex 5oz underquilt. Can go into the low 40s comfortably before I need to start supplementing with layers. Really easy to work with. It's a little bit more bulky than the down I've seen, but I have had no problem with a large top and bottom quilt inside a ULA OHM with gear and 3 days of food. (still room in the pack for more). Cost was a big issue for me, but the synthetic properties have served me well a few times. I've only used mine for 1 year but haven't noticed any breakdown yet.

I agree with everyone else. I have the arrowhead equipment new river, and it's fantastic. I like not having to be as delicate with it, and the moistness of the Pacific Northwest is what steered me away from down. I have a climashield sleeping bag that I've used for years and it still lofts well. Just toss it in the dryer for a few minutes. Can't go wrong with climashield.

Wow, amazing feedback! I'm sold on making one. Plus I'm snobby with fabric and plan to use silk as the inner lining...momentum50 outer. I don't like the idea of Teflon rubbing me as I sleep. Here in Hawaii I take only shorts and a 3 oz silk shirt as my only clothing sometimes. I end up sleeping nude because it gets so hot. Thanks again for all the feedback and I appreciate it very much. Will post pics when it's made...just gotta sell my 40 burrow and Phoenix. And a bunch of other gear
