    XLC top cover or not?

I ordered a wbbb XLC 1.1 double without cover yesterday. Now I'm wondering if I should have ordered with top cover.

I don't expect to do much cold weather camping. Usually only 1 or two a year with temps in the high teens and twenties. The rest of the times it is 60 and above.

    Any recommendations?

I passed on it too. I had a AHE top cover for my previous WBBB original and didn't use it much. It was effective in temps in 20F - 30F range but colder than that resulted in greenhouse condensation for me. I prefer open top hammocks in cold weather and a bigger tarp with long sides like the Superfly.

Yes, but it'll cost you more than if you bought with hammock. You lose out on the discount buying it as a package deal.

If I will rarely, if ever, be camping in subfreezing temps, would I ever have use for the top cover?

I didn't get one. Rarely camp below 20. I seem to recall reading on here you have to buy it at the same time as the hammock.

Probably not worth the extra cash. I find bottom covers like the 2Q&ZQ under quilt protector to be a better investment. I use mine a lot and it's very versatile. It blocks wind, traps heat inside the hammock and is effective in rainy weather to keep water splash and mud off the bottom of your hammock and quilts when using a short sided tarp like the HG 4 season cuben fiber tarp.

I had contact with Brandon on just this question and you cannot order the top at a later time. It can only be ordered at the time of your initial puchase.

Interesting. He must have changed his mind. When the XLC first came out I seem to remember he offered the option to buy the cover later but with an up charge.
