why is it so hard to do?

Why can't I sell extra gear? Got more then enuf hammocks of all kinds, packs and quilts and stoves even an extra tarp or two? And every time I buy something new I tell myself I'm going to sell downsize but I just can't do it yet...any one else have this problem?

I'll never sell anything. It's good to have gear for friends of my kids to borrow if they want to make a trip with us. As we upgrade the older stuff becomes loaner material.

I like having choices when packing for a trip. I sell very little.

That's the tact my wife tries to use against me.
But come-on, really, just because I still have my 1970's era fishnet hammock doesn't mean I have a problem letting go of my hammock gear ---- does it?

I hear you. It's like a I have a gear check valve. Gear can come in but can't go back out.

I think the memories of trips associated with gear can add to the difficulty.

I sell everything, the secret is having very little space to store stuff. Give yourself a box or locker and then sell/give away anything that does not fit in it. The upside is I sold a bunch of stuff that was just laying around and bought a super super nice rifle.

The secret is the truth. The truth is that when you let stuff go, you tend to get better stuff. It's the flow of life. You can't get a better house without selling the one you have. My thing is if it's not getting used NOW then sell, give, or throw away. You can always get a better one. In fact I'm gonna sell all the stuff I'm not using right now.

The truth is; I get stuck in a what if loop...
I would like to sell this backpack; but what if i need a good hybrid-frame technical backpack for that canyoneering trip I will someday take...?
I would like to sell this boat; but it will make a good first boat for Gage in 6 or 7 years...?

I don't like to have stuff I'm not using. The only dumb thing I own that will likely never see use is a Heineken pot... I don't know why I can't let that go.
