The name suggests a sad & lonely mountain.....so i heaved a pack
on my back late one afternoon to do an a over-nighter to find out.
Initial access is through farm land cleared a lifetime ago...
Old timers shack with ageing, fruit laden lemon tree....
Shack owners view down the valley...
A burst of colour along the trail...
The ridge I followed steepened & I zig-zagged back & forth across it in low gear....Heartbreak hill tried its best to break me.
Great views along the way though....
With nightfall approaching, I stumble upon a nice grassy area with plenty of trees
to choose from......lucky I asked for a room with a view.
The night was dark with cool gusting breezes.
Wallaby's jumped & thumped not so far away in the blackness,
possums growled their gutteral territory calls from the branches
high above.
Bird song filtered away, replaced by the very noisy insects.
I star-gazed & followed coloured flashing aircraft lights jetting across the heavens for a while,
before the strenuous climb caught up with me & I fell into a deep sleep.
A brand new day brought a ghostly misty morning
...& a brew of sweet, hot chocolate to get the motor fired up.
I decided to leave my backpack at camp, so i could travel light & quick
along this early morning ridgeline traverse to the summit.
Ridgeline meander...
The morning suns rays headed westward....
I wasn't alone on the summit....
Worth all the sweat & tears.....
Nothing sad & lonely about this mountain...just a jewel waiting to be found.
I'll be back....
You'll find me under wide blue sky's, wandering aimlessly....but happy.
Hope you enjoy
