    Farm improvisation

Went to a friend's farm over the weekend and snatched the chance for some hammock time. As it turns out, the only available attachment point near the house was this home-made swing set, Kiwi style! Once we evicted the lambs and calves from this part of the paddock so they wouldn't chew on the Dyneema, it made a pretty solid hammock frame.

This looks like a good idea, but it lasted all of five seconds in the gale force winds which followed, ripping my stakes out of the ground. In the end I had to tie the guy lines directly to the timber of the frame. The tarp was acting like a sail!

    Dog kennel tie-outs.

Next-door neighbours, the chooks. They were a bit confused, but not too traumatised by the experience.

Two good nights' sleep were had!

Well played! Nice improvisation. The countryside in the background looks beautiful too.
    Good luck,

I think the improvisation required to hang in various situations is a primary appeal of hammock camping. Great job capturing that in pictures! I noticed the under quilt; Y'all are are pretty well into summer, aren't you? Cool evenings?

    Hammocks in the Shire!

I think I can see Bagshot Row in the distance there.

Oh yeah, summer's pretty well here but still cool enough at 3 AM to need a bit of Incubator to ward off the chill!

I suppose it does look a bit Middle Earth! I'm a long way from where they filmed it though

I'm in Auckland, but these were taken at Te Akau, not too far from Hamilton. Not too many hangers in this part of the world!
