Peanuts, I am so sorry to hear your tablecloth hammock tore. I know you really liked it after you got it squared away and hanging proudly at Leroy's Ferry campground. I don't know how you can repair it, but I hope you get it fixed. If not, I think they are having a sale right now.

Where exactly is the tear? Is it on the weight bearing portion of the hammock??? Contact Randy at Dream Hammocks, he may be able to help.

They are very reasonably priced at just over $12 or so. I would probably just replace it.

You could try "tenasious tape". Not sure how it will work on taffeta, but I've used it with great results on ripstop.

    Hi Peanuts,
I just got your email as I was reading this thread. I'll respond here so that all may hear.

Take a good look at the tear or hole. If almost all the fibers are intact, but just separated, you could probably fix it. If there are several fibers actually broken, it's gonna form a weak spot and may not hold up well after attempting a repair.

1.) You indicated that the small 1/2" tear is at your right shoulder area. If at all possible, I would reverse ends so that you move the damaged area to the foot end where it would be under much less stress.

2.) I would likely try to hand stitch a patch on one or both sides of it. The Poly Crinkle Taffeta is woven with fairly course fibers and you don't have quite the risk of perforating the fabric like a much denser woven ripstop nylon. If you need some scrap fabric for patches, let me know.
In addition to the patch, you might consider smearing a little Seam Grip over the tear and patch to kinda "glue" the fibers together. Seam Grip is available here at JRB http://www.jacksrbetter.com/shop/mcnett-seam-grip/

3.) Given the cost and hassle of repairing it. Might be ahead just to retire this one and order a new tablecloth blank. Even if you successfully fix this one, you'll always wonder when & if it's gonna go.

    Hope this helps.

I'm a backpacker, so if a hammock gets a tear, it doesn't get to go on the trail with me anymore, repair or not.

If you're just using it for car camping, and you'll have a backup hammock, then go ahead and try the repair.
