    Convert mummy bag to UQ?

New to hammocking and this forum (which is fantastic BTW. Thanks for all the ideas - used a bunch already).

Anyone converted a down mummy bag to an under quilt? I ran across an older style Northface bag at a rummage this summer for next to nothing and my first try using CCF was OK but think UQ is the next step forward. I don't sew or even have a machine but that is what grandmas are for - right?

If anyone has instructions, please let me know. Also wondering if any of the cottage vendors out there would do it for a fee.

    TY everyone !!!

This is probly the best, it's done using a rectangle bag but should work with a full zip mummy bag the same way. Also requires no sewing. I have a couple other older videos on my youtube channel you can check out also. Have any questions feel free to ask there. I'll be sure to get them and get back to ya

    goo

That system is pretty slick! I'm looking at making an UQ and I'd probably use a similar system to affix the UQ I have a bottom-entry Hennessy. Thanks!

Wow - that is a cool system! The bag I have has a sewn foot box so probably won't work. Maybe I will research sewing a patch of fabric on the end and cutting a hole in it and make more of a pod system. Great videos! Thanks for the ideas! I think I might eventually try the poncho liner UQ for cool weather temps.

    Convert mummy bag to UQ?

I took an old mummy SB that was still in great shape and cut a hole in the footbox. I run the foot end of my suspension rope thru it. I use elastic cord at the head to cinch it up. I can the zip it up like a peapod. I have a removeable ridge line on my Hennessey without bug netting. Zipping it up over the ridge line gives me space inside an keeps the SB up snug. No (or under) ridgeline for warmer weather. I had to reinforce the footbox hole. I stuff the footbox now with my jacket or vest to keep cold air out.
My SB also has under pad loops. I have run my ridgeline thru the two loops on the zipper side. This also holds the SB up. I suppose I could run elastic cord from the foot suspension rope thru the loops and attach it to the head side of suspension rope to keep the ridgeline free.
This was in case I have to go to the (shudder) ground when there are no trees. I will take this to the NEHHA in Jan. I will also take a Big Agnes Insulated pad to give the SB a shape and more insulation if needed. I take the pad on my trips also in case I have to got to the ground.

Thanks Crash - sounds like an excellent setup. As of now, I am leaning towards trying to use the mummy bag as a pod system like you describe or something similar. What did you use to reinforce the hole in the footbox? Did you just sew around the cut or did you sew some fabric on? If so, what kind of fabric did you use? I am totally ignorant about this - any help is much appreciated!

The SB has synthetic insulation so I'm not worried about feathers flying out.
