    Outandback,

Forget the Tarp pics, I like the upsidedown holster hang. Is that just tight a CHL holster.

When I was in BigSur last month I was car camping because of my Achilles, I felt naked inside the hammock without my Kimber, and was thinking how I could do just what you have there.

On the subject of tarps, does the cat cut I see in Shug's pics really help with keeping the fly taught? I notice on my HH Hex it gets loose over night. I am going to add some tensioners to the lines, but I figured the cat cut helped as well.

Then the question I have is what if you want that bottom edge right on the ground for wind? Do you have to pile snow, leaves, etc. up against the bottom edge?

Is the HHex cat cut? If so, I don't think its a very aggressive cut. I've noticed the same thing when I've camped with folks using a BMJ - seems to not be as taut, or hold as taut, as my Toxaway. The tox is longer than both, and as wide, but is more aggressively cut so that the stake points are closer together on each side. Really holds the pitch very well.

I've never felt like I needed to go as far as filling up the space on the ground exposed by the cat cut. If you've got it staked down to the ground, then the little amount of wind that might come through is going to stay low and not significantly affect your heat loss. Perhaps in extreme conditions it could, I don't know. Of course, if it snows, problem solved!
