    Hammocking in the Rain

This may be a dumb question....but here goes...

Doesn't the water run down the lines and drip on you??

I wanted to do my first hang this saturday night but its supposed to rain...I mean on one hand good practice (potentially) on the other hand...disaster...

Any tips on hanging on a rainy night or day for that matter?

You could always use old shoe strings and tie them onto your suspension lines as drip lines.

I had this problem in a hh after I put straps on it. The straps channeled the water in the hammock. Now I use ring buckles and it isn't a problem. The water runs down the strap or line until it hits the hammock or hits something else that causes it to move down and drip.

Like the psycho said, drip strings work well.

Do a little test, hang the hammock. Pour water on the line or webbing. See what happens.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

Areyou using the standard HH suspension or have have you chaned to ring buckle or cinch buckes. If you hcanged to ring buckle just twist the straps a little and shouldn't have any problems. I have never been in HH, but it has worked on both of the hammocks I have used.

I used Tee Dee's carabiner hitch with my Hennessy Backpacker UL with a Macat DLX. I rode out a couple of "frog strangler" rains on the BMT a couple of weeks ago. I never got a drop of water under that tarp.

If you have not changed to webbing are using the stock HH suspension rope with the tarp attached to that rope, I don't think you will have any problem. Even if your tarp is tyed to the trees, you might be OK, as the prussick loops might still serve as a drip line. I think that HH comes from the factory ready for rain.

Like Coffee said, test with a hose. But it's awful easy just to hang some drip lines. Just attache something absorbent- sock, shoe strings, whatever, under the tarp near the hammock ends, on the rope.

I saturate 4 inches of the straps just above the hammock with silicone sealant. Any water that would otherwise wick to the hammock drips right off.

If the manufacturer did not design in a water break....Put a ring or carabiner in the primary suspension and any water will drop off at that point...end of issue.
