A Day in the Urban Woods

Gorgeous day, especially once the fog burned off. With temps in the 80s, it's hard to believe it's December!

Guess what this is... (Answer below the picture.)

It's the Moiré pattern caused by the two layer hammock construction. It's actually one solid color; that's it bottom right of the pic just above this one.

Hanging in bare feet (-: . Hard to believe there's a 60 degree difference between your place and mine.

Glad I got out when I did; it cooled off big time. I don't think it got out of the 40s today.

Another day in the urban woods

Spent another day in the urban woods just hanging out. A bit cooler so no barefoot hanging this time! After setting up my gear, I decided to play with my new Benchmade Bushcrafter and practice some bushcraft skills.

Baton-ed a small cedar log into kindling and used my fire steel to ignite tinder of petroleum jelly on cotton balls. It was cool enough that heat from the small fire was welcome!

Nothing like a warm meal in the hammock watching a camp fire on a cool day!

After a lunch of lentil soup it was on to hot coffee.

I set up in a small stand of lost maples at the very edge of the creek where I could hear the running water. The day after Christmas and some trees still have fall color, and some still have green leaves!

I really dig this pattern. I immediately thought of a Diamond back when I seen that. Brought back scary memories about those **** snakes.

Another warm day in the urban woods

    Barefoot hanging in January!

My most recent hang spot in a stand of maples on a bluff above the creek, which is visible to the left.

I'm using a tubbed Cuben ground cloth to keep my junk out of the dirt.

A shot of the hang from across the creek.

Back-lit air plants on an oak.

    Hog track?

    Reflections off the creek.

The hang from the back side.

    Keeping an eye on things...
