    Backyard hang: Winter storm warning

Going to sleep out tonight. Temp in mid twenties and dropping, with a cold front moving in. We don't get weather like this often here. A great chance to see whether my winter rig can keep me sort of comfortable. Forecast is ninety percent for snow, starting 2 a.m. I'm jazzed for a good chance to test my gear!

So far, so good. I was comfy cozy last night but the temp did not drop below 26 degrees f. Tonight is supposed to be colder so I am planning to sleep out again. The snow began falling around 2 this morning and was just beautiful.

Here are a couple pics to illustrate:

Here you see my rig as I slept in it. I would not probably use the fleece sleeping bag liner in the woods, as it'd be vulnerable to moisture, but I wanted to give it a whirl, to see if I might like to sew a pod in the future.

Here are the details of my rig. I used my Marmot jacket as a makeshift footbox; I thought cold feet was likely the weakest link. I did not put up a tarp as I was on a covered patio and wanted to see the snow falling.

For clothing, I used Underarmour 2.0 base layer, two poly shirts on top, my hiking pants and rain pants on bottom, two layers of socks, a balaclava and my BlackRock down beanie. I was playing it safe clothing-wise; could have done with less but I thought it'd get colder. I'll post again after tonight. Or maybe I'll take my tablet out with me and post from the hammock. And I'll set up a stove tonight so I can have coffee in the hammock in the morning--assuming I'm warm enough again. Cheers!

Prediction for tonight is 16 degrees. Then clear and 7 degrees Saturday night! Unheard of here in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. I don't expect to sleep in 7 degree weather but I'll definitely give it a go tonight.

It's supposed to drop to a frigid 64F here tonight. I wonder if I should challenge it? lol
