    Jar-River / New-Bridge: UQ Stacking

I'm the proud owner of a regular New River (no apex) and just took delivery on a Jarbridge w/apex last week. Used the Jarbridge this past Friday night and got into the teens...was warm, but I could have been warmer, so I re-thought my insulation and decided to try stacking the next next night. Everything fit well together and it got to a low of 12, but most of the night it was 15-16 degrees. I wore my normal cold weather sleep gear (long johns, wools socks, fleece pants & top). I also used my Wally world 32 degree down Ozark Trails bag to supplement my EE RevX 20 down TQ plus a footpad & water bottle.

I slept great! Never got cold and was always toasty warm. Rigging the UQ's were easy and I could adjust as needed from the hammock. I'm confident I can get to single digits or below with the addition of a UQP. Paul from Arrowhead Equipment makes great gear and the quality is top notch!

Here's a few pictures of the setup and how the two quilts compare in size and loft:

I'm stacking right now, sub 20 degrees with 10mph winds = wind chill in the single digits and I am nice and warm.

I stacked mine the other way. I put the smaller quilt against the hammock. Now I'm curious about which way is better... :what:

I was thinking the same thing when I set it up. My thought was that if the smaller one was inside there would be too much dead space where they don't match in size and it would allow a draft in. Seeing your picture, maybe I'm wrong by that assumption. I may try it again this weekend with the addition of my new UQP from 2qZq. I'm sure single digits are possible with this rig

    Jar-River / New-Bridge: UQ Stacking

Hello my name is Chris. I am a stacker.... I have been experimenting with this for several weeks now. I have even gone as far as stacking 3. First layer closest to the WBRR was my JCP DIY puff jacket full length. Next my JRB Greylock 20 deg. Next my trusty Jarbridge which I think you just can't beat for the money and quality. Needless to say I was toasty warm. I am currently using two Walmart down bags together as a TQ and they are awesome together. Since the jarbridge is synthetic I feel it also serves as a protector for my Greylock. Temperatures have been in the mid to low 20's with wind so I am confident I could get into single digits at this point. As long as I am car camping anyway.... On the list is definitely a 0 or 20 deg full length. I just haven't decided on which vendor to use yet. We are lucky to have so many wonderful choices!

A triple stacker! That would be a pile of stuff to pack in, but car camping or backyard hanging it would be perfect. Question on the wm bags...are they ozark trails 32?

With 2 Synthetic Quilts I don't think it makes that much of a difference as to which one should go against the hammock. But if I were setting it up. I'd go larger against the hammock smaller on the outside. Same as I would with my Jarbidge and my Phoenix. The Phoenix is down and a 3/4 so the Jarbidge goes against the hammock then the Phoenix, so I don't compress the down. This will also help keep my feet, lower legs, upper back and head warm, while adding extra insulation to the midsection. My quilt protector will cover both UQs for added warmth and wind/weather protection. I'm kicking myself for selling my Owyhee TQ it would have supplemented my Mammba TQ nicely in extreme cold weather conditions when car camping. Again same concept Owyhee inside the Mammba so the down doesn't compress.

Yep. Definitely for the yard and car camping. We only hit the teens a few times a year if that in north MS so I think a double layer for me should always be more than adequate with my current gear. Yes. I am speaking of the Walmart Ozark Trail bags. For the money I think they are a great piece of gear. I lucked up and found a second one at the goodwill for 6$!!! So now when it hits the 20's I usually use both of them as TQs inserting one into the other. All I have done so far is put tape on the zippers. I have plans to do away with those and add a bit of down to each in the future to make them true 20 deg bags. I took one on the AT in September and it was awesome. Light weight and very compact and under 100$. Can't beat it!
