There was most likely something else going on. Ratings are made assuming you know what your doing. I have 3 bags from wiggy's, in fact I live in 2 of them for 2 years. They are the only bag I'd use/recommend for winter usage.
Try them yourself before you come to any conclusions.

So I checked my calculator. I think you would need something like 10 inches of loft if you were using down.

Are you sure its not 10 ft of loft for that temp.

Good luck finding trees.

We could melt some water and make some ice trees......

if lay in my 40 tq , then put my 20* tq on top and then my 0* tq on top of that, I have 11" of loft. I wonder if I stacked my 20* and 0* uq's with the 3 tq's how low I could go. I'll have to set that up and take a picture one day...

I am the friend spoken of with the failed -20F bag. it failed. I used it 2 nights in a row and compared it to a 0F TQ. one half was warm the other I could feel the heat "draw off" me. I contacted jerry who of course never replied because it seemed fishy to me that it was so thin and not warm. haven't use the thicker bag yet.

very odd, I always thought mine were pretty close on the mark. I'd even throw my wet clothes in the foot of the bag, I'd wake up warm and dry. I once lived in a tent for 2 years for fun, plus I wasn't always in that tent, wandered a lot and made shelters on the fly (it's funny, I come back to town and buy a comp, and find out there's apparently a huge crowd of armchair 'survival' experts and weekend 'bushcrafters' that blew up all over the internet. I think I had aol 3.0 last before I bought this computer a year or 2 ago.), and used those 2 bags the whole time. Held up to a lot. Incredible bags, but they are way too bulky and heavy for backpacking of course, but couldn't be happier with them personally. Wiggy is notoriously unfriendly, and he prefers phone calls, so I wouldn't think he was acting fishy, just unpleasant as usual. Do you think there was something going on, or it just straight up wasn't warm enough? Everyone is different....

I've been to Antartica and it wasn't even near that cold. I think I'll pass on anything less than -100f. Brrrrrrrr

well I wouldn't say fishy, but the -20F bag is thin. when I say thin I mean an inch, maybe inch and a half from top to bottom. I don't know if laminar would be that effective that thin. I did my research before purchasing wiggy's bag, and I still think it true to be an ultimate winter bag, but this -20 bag isn't it. I don't know. makes no sense. will call him next time I am home early from work.
