A slight tangent- what about eucalypts and dead branches? How do you tell where it is safe to hang, from an Aussie perspective?

I reckon common sense is the best guide. I try to stay away from Eucalyptus and some of the gums. Personaly i make sure there is no branches dead or alive that are over hanging in precarious positions but that on any kind of tree. I usualy test the tree with a shake and see what shakes and moves around and judge form there. I went to test a tree one time and gave it shake and dead part of the tree snaped off at the top and javlined down toward me. Had to practice my ninja roll on that one. I found a different tree after that

Why'd you move trees? It had got rid of the dodge branch by then.

What length do you need it?

I was looking to get maybe three or four metres - I did a trial hang last week and one of the trees was waaay bigger than the standard HH huggers. Ialso like the idea of going around the tree twice to distribute the load, and make for less slipping while you're setting up and adjusting the hammock.

**** fine question! It's been going through my mind a bit too. Wondering if we're suicudal to hang from gum trees. Maybe the hammock would act as a giant trampoline and throw the branches off TH where about's is your store? I may be able to drop in and pick up some webbing if you still have some?

Bumper, I'm in Melbourne- the spotlight I visited was Bayswater. I didn't see poly webbing there, I wasn't looking too hard because I intend to canibalise hammock mark II (which in turn took webbing from hammock mark I)

I think you will find the webbing from spotlight will streatch too much if it is going to the suspension.

Somebody help me, I'm an addict!

Mum and Dad were looking at curtain fabric, and spotlight was having an buy the whole roll get 30% off sale. I decided to go along.

I bought some more denim-coloured ripstop, about a metre's worth, and noticed that they've got some nice maroon stuff, but too much on the roll to buy it all! (they think it's for dress making. LOL.)

I also bought a sliding buckle to replace one on my pack that had gone missing.

Disappointingly, I didn't have any chance to plot my plan of attack before going. I saw shock cord, 100% "heavy duty" poly webbing and 100% polyester mesh. (not noseeum but smaller than the "mosquito netting" they had.) I didn't buy any of it though! SIGH.

On the plus side, I now have lots of rewards to encourage/bribe me through this assignment/exam period!

You know your hooked when you have a spotlight card, I do and get all kinds of strange looks from the staff

When I go in with my wife they talk to her and not me, she has to tell them that it is me that wants all this fabric and stuff.
