New England Hang is anyone interested?

It seems to me that all the hangs always seem to happen in the south. That is a real bummer to me because I live way up here in Maine and it is not feasible or cost effective for me to attend.

I would really like to see a group hang and get together in the New England area. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in attending a New England hang. I was thinking of somewhere near the Appalachian Trail or on it around the month of October of this year (2009). I was thinking like somewhere in New Jersey near High Point or Branchville or in that area.

Do we have anyone interested or anyone in that area that could help me get this going?

I am not from the area so I haven’t a clue. The reason I picked this area is because I will be in this area around that time frame collecting information for the book Appalachian Pages. I figured the weekend I was down there would be perfect to get us New Englanders together for a weekend hang.

Here are my thoughts on some options and I am open to suggestions. Keep in mind I need to research these options.

    1. High Point Shelter. We could park at State Park if there still open and hike 2.3 miles into the shelter for the weekend.
    2. Rutherford Shelter. We could park at the parking area at the Deckertown Turnpike and hike 2.7 miles north to the shelter.
    3. Mashipacong Shelter. We could park at the parking area at the Deckertown Turnpike and hike 0.2 miles south to the shelter.
    4. Gren Anderson Shelter. We could park at the Sunrise Mountain Road and hike in 1.4 miles to the shelter, in doing this we would also pass Culvers Fire Tower (this would be neat).

If anyone is from the area and has any other suggestion then please let me know.

I could be in on it.

I'd move it a little farther North...New Jersey is not part of New England.

Still gotta include RI, but I agree with you on CT. All Yankees fans there anyway.
