Plastic hangers? Well it might be good to keep in mind that they do need some strength.

    Plastic Hangers

I'm just under 200 lbs and have never had an issue....with the MSH the weight is on the strap and not the toggle so I wouldn't think it would be an issue.... with the 3" piece I can hardly get it to flex when I try to bend it .... also there are some thicker hangers that are almost 1/2"

I have also used the plastic hangers without issue.

I'd think since the plastic hangers are solid there'd be no issue. Isn't most of the force a crushing force? I've never used a whoopie sling and toggle, so I really don't know. But I've never heard anyone say a toggle has sheared or snapped from lack of strength.

I use 1/4" solid aluminum bar-stock from my local hardware store. It's pretty cheap, they're plenty lightweight for me, and I don't have to worry about them ever getting crushed since they're not hollow.

My go to source is a Recreational supply store who sell tent parts - aluminum tent poles is what I used. I can typically get 5 out of one section, and typically you can find they is decent colors. The ones I uses are yellow, and work great.

Never thought of plastic hangers, but the ones I have broken (on accident) at home appear to have a hollow center (size of pencil lead).

I once used the bobbin of some Gutterman thread as a toggle, until it showed too much stress on it.

    Cheers -

I also once got desperate and used an ink pen and a sharpie that I had in my pocket as toggles. The sharpie held up beautifully, but the cheap Bic ink pen was pretty well crushed afterward. It still held up my hammock, though.
