Doesn't everyone carry water purification tabs or drops? You are telling me that thoroughly rinsing a bottle with a few drops of dr bronners, then filling it in the stream and purifying it is out of the question? I am not saying this is a practice, like plan this for weight savings after i have drilled all the holes my toothbrush will allow. However, i have done it out of necessity. I darn sure didn't tell any of my camp mates

It might be gross, but I think eating shrimp with the legs attached that i have to rip off is gross. 'To each his own', I say. For my part, a bottle in a hammock is way easier than peeing from the side of a pitching boat when halibut fishing. And both are better than holding it.

No friggin' way am I attempting a wee in, on, or over the side of my hammock. Additionally, I am absolutely not going to be toting around a pee bottle. If it doesn't serve 2 purposes, it probably isn't coming.

Hmm thinking about it an alfresco "water the lilys" feels better (!) then when at home. Can't figure why that might be though.

I'm glad you don't have to get up to go. I wish you the best of luck and pray for your healing along with wisdom on behalf of your doctors, sir.

While I agree that I'm more comfortable and "feel" warmer if I don't hold it, I'm not buying the concept that your body wastes energy keeping the bladder contents warm. Pee entering the bladder is body temperature and with the bladder being inside the body, the only place it can lose heat is back to the body (so it can't lose heat).

Just my 0.02 and thanks for letting me state it.
Not to single you out either but the science is true.
The body including your full bladder is thermal mass.
Maintaining a constant temperature of that thermal mass requires calories burned.
So a larger thermal mass will require the burning of more calories. This is evident in the fact that a large hot water heater will consume more energy than a small one.
By emptying the bladder you reduce thermal mass therfore making the body more efficient at keeping the rest of the mass at body temperature. The conservation of spent calories will allow the body to have a reserve tank of fuel at the end of the cycle. Peeing in hammock will also save heat loss that will consume calories to readjust body temperature.

I generally get up to pee no matter how cold it is, but I make a contingency plan. I just keep my boots and jacket close, cause I know that I will probably have to get up once, especially when it is cold.

Now, I guess I need to read the whole thread to see where this leads...
