Hello all,
I am new to the forums and somewhat new to Hammock Camping. I am originally from central Florida, but now reside a short distance north of DC.
The first time I used a hammock was in 2004 on a canoe trip I took with my senior class from high springs to the Gulf of Mexico. The first site we stopped at we all sat up our tents and got ready for a good nights rest. I had set up my hammock for leisure purposes. Somehow I got the idea of just sleeping in it so I grabbed my sleeping back and slumped into it like a cocoon. The next morning I woke up and it felt like a new world. I found out that you could camp and sleep well at the same time.
Since then I have camped more than a half a dozen times in my hammock not realizing that hammock camping was a real thing until recently when I was redirected to this forum. I did not even think of using a tarp for wind or rain protection as I always planned for good weather before.
I am so glad to know that I am not alone and there are now so many different options at my disposal as far as gear. I look forward to learning and upgrading my gear to further enhance my experience in hammock camping alone and with friends.
Currently I only have an army surplus camo gathered end hammock which will be upgraded soon along with other bells and whistles I didn't know I needed
