    Feather vs Down for UQ

    Hey guys!

I have an old Ikea comforter, made of 75% feathers and 25% down... I'm not using it and don't plan to use it, so I was thinking of collecting all the feathers and using that for an UQ.

I was wondering what the difference would be if I used that instead of high quality down? I'm assuming the weight will be way heavier, but I can live with that for a first DIY UQ on a budget. Will the final product compress as well? How would it be compared to synthetics? Would the loft be impacted?

    Thanks for your help!

Feathers aren't as warm and heavier.

Keep your eye on Marceoutlet store on ebay. Sometimes they get the Blooming My Luxe down pillows in, you want the down, firm, and not the alternative. They are harder to get at a steal than they used to be as their popularity grew with us here on the forum. Out of one King size you can get 3 20 degree or better 3/4 underquilts with some to spare....and you still have another king to put to use. The Luxe is 800 and flair is 700 fill. It's been a while for me, so you'll want to search the forum to make sure you have the correct pillow names before buying because you don't want to get a pillow that has other fillings in it too, or pillow that have a lot of feathers. Some pillows will have down in an outer layer, while the entire inner core is poly. Search the forum here for luxe pillow.

Feathers will poke through the fabric as well.
I suggest saving for down. Warmer and lighter.

Thanks for the input guys! I'll wait for the down in this case. Haven't thought of feathers poking through, good to know

I got 4 of the king med/firm My Luxe 800fp pillows on two different Marce auctions this week @~$3.00/oz. shipped, based on this info. Like everything on ebay, the high bid comes in the last 5-10 seconds.

UpMySleeves...good decision to wait. I'd hate to do all that work just to fill the quilt with feathers.
