    First DIY hammock question

    Hello!

Thinking about making my first hammock and had question. If I sew a channel on each end could I just pass the whoopie slings through the channels and back through the non adjustable end of the loop to cinch both ends together?

    Thanks!

That will work just fine. I converted my ENO dn to whoopie slings. Works Great.

Whoopies through the end channels work well and is a common method. Three rows of stitching are typically used on the channels.

+1 on the three rows of stitching. That's exactly how I did it, and it works just fine. I used a continuous Amsteel with a descender ring on my hammock end, then girth hitched the Whoopie sling to the ring.
I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, make sure I stay here.

When I see lovers' names carved into a tree, I don't think it's cute. I think it's strange how so many people take knives on a date.

I've switched to a gathered bundle of material on the end. Seems more secure than relying on the stitching.

For the gathered end do you simple bunch it together or tie it around or is there a certain method to it?

Do these two different methods create a different lay at all?

I just ordered some fabric from DIY gear and some of the Gütermann Mara thread as well. Has anyone ever used this thread? What type of stitch do you put in the end channels when you are putting the triple stitches?

    Thanks!

Here is a link on a simple way to do it. You do give up about 4" of hammock.

Make the end channel and you have your choice of gathering it with the whoopie through the channel or by "bunching".

Mara 70 is a favorite thread of many of us. Straight stitching is what you want.
