Would Maxima ESD fabric on sale at http://diygearsupply.com/product/maxima-esd/ be useful in making my first quilt. I know it is heavier than 1.1 ripstop, but it seems much more durable, since i could wash it without losing its water repellency, as i would DWR ripstop nylon. What do you guys think? 2.7 oz/yd vs 1.1 oz/yd, better durability, better water repellency, for the same price as DWR 1.1 ripstop.

I would say it depends on what you plan to fill your quilt with, and how you plan to use it. Based on the calendaring and microbial resistance, it should be downproof. But if you are using down, you will probably not want to wash it often anyway, as repeated washing can be hard on the down.

If you are using a synthetic like apex, and plan to have it be durable, perhaps even serving as a ground set up if needed, then it might be worth the extra weight for durability. My down quilts seem to wear fine with only 1.1, but I've been eyeing that fabric as a possible lightweight kilt material (like I really need another), and might consider it for a durable synthetic set for summer.

I'm getting ready to buy material for my first synthetic TQ and UQ then i saw this and wondered. I'll use Climashield APEX. I like Down, but there really is only a small size difference (i'm not a gram weenie). I like the idea of using this as shell material that's more versatile...more durable, etc..It's so cheap, i'll get a few extra yards.
