    Sleeping bag question

I read on here about people using a sleeping bag, but removing the zipper pull. What is the reason for doing that? Is it that it gets in the way or could tear through the hammock?

Mostly it's a concern about tearing the hammock. I kept mine on (mummy bag) and haven't had a problem. Reason: I like to zip it up in the winter and use it like a TQ in the warmer weather..

I leave my zip on as well but I have woke up lying on the pull sometime.

I've left mine on too... but I've also used mine as a peapod, where I thread the hammock through the sleeping bag (it has a second zipper on the foot end), and using carabiners and binder clips, I attach it to the hammocks suspension, and it works great.
Although I just recently upgraded to a TQ/UQ, but haven't had a chance to try them out yet.

While I would love to have a TQ, I do have a variety of sleeping bags ranging from -20 to 40 degrees. I use them as TQs and have never had a problem with the zippers. I do zip up to form a foot box but the zipper stays in place.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Even in the hammock I like to have a sleeping bag tucked and zipped around me rather than laying loosely on top. I worried about poking into the hammock for awhile but it has never happened. For now, the zippers stay on.

I really don't see how a zipper would tear a (decent quality or better) hammock. I've slept on both cheap and expensive air pads when tenting it and never had a puncture. Same with my hammock. Just more of the usual online forum conjecture. Maybe one or two people would like to prove me wrong, but I'm not worried.

I was thinking the same thing. Folks with the tissue paper hammocks please chime in.
