first off hello and thanks to all you hangers out there (swingers just sounded wrong?) I've been lurking here on HF for over a month and just finished hammocks for the family and a friend for Christmas 6 total + a few trials. I could not have done it without the help of you fine folks. Anyway my name is Troy and I live in southern Utah and built the hammocks for me and my boys to do a 50 mile scout hike this July. I built three hennesy clones without tie outs and 3 gathered ends with plans on using amsteel continuous loops on the gathered ends.
So here goes the questions: first on the continuous loops, do I need to do them separate or can I just make a larger loop on the fixed loop end of the woopies I'm planning on making and run it through the end of the hammock? and how do you add a structural ridge line to these types of hammocks, just clip a carabineer on the "continuous loop"?
second question is in regards to tarps and cat cuts. I get what they are but where are you guys putting them? on the ridge line so it follows the sway of the hammock? or between tie outs? to save weight? or to prevent tarp flap in between tie outs? I am planning on rectangular tarps so I can bring the ends together to make a more sealed off unit in foul weather I know it will be a little heavier but i'll make do.
Thanks in advance for any help Ive been lurking on my phone but since santa provided us with a computer for Christmas I figured I'd shout out my hello and ask these questions. that I haven't been able to find the answers for because of my lack of computer searching skills
