Indoor Hammock Ropes Cut During Delivery

    Hello,

I bought an absolutely beautiful Mayan hammock from http://hammockboutique.com (wonderful people), which I am planning to have as my permanent bed shortly, but on arrival, I found one of the ropes sent with the hammock had been cut with a knife. And I'm absolutely sure it was from any inspection at the border; I'm just glad it wasn't the hammock that got it instead!

Anyway, the ropes are 6 feet long, folded in half and the folded part is sewn into a loop and reinforced with a fake leather.

So, one side of one rope is cut half way though one foot down from the loop. Do you think I can get away with just tying a knot? Would that be a good enough reinforcement for the cut? If so, would one knot be better over another?

    Thanks!

I'm sure you will have other suggestions, but I would use a double fishermans knot to join another piece of rope to the short end - leave long tails to each knot though!

Thanks! That's one knot I already know. If I do this, I'll have to put it on the side that it wouldn't be so noticeable (I want it to look pretty).

I know what you're doing... I've heard about the splicing addiction some people have caught hear. You're just trying to suck me in (no pun intended)!

Well, I think it might be a very good idea!
    Thanks nothermark!!!

Tying it back together shall be just fine. The Ashley bend is another great and easy knot to join 2 ends together.

    Thanks fallkniven. Nice knot!

I think I'll start with a knot for now, until I have time to actually splice these beautiful handmade ropes.

    Thanks everyone!
