    New from GA

    Hello from N Georgia

New to hammocks. I had one net hammock way back in the 80's when I was a kid. I never could get it right, but now I would like to try again.

I am very interested in a camping hammock and hope to unconfuse myself here. I have been reading for a while, but just got voice to post.

Welcome to HF from Athens. You've come to the wrong place to be unconfused. By the time you figure out what you want, you'll read about some other great new thing and it starts all over again. Welcome to the madness.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

You'll find a world of difference between the old net vs new comforts! Welcome......from the "Wilds of western Mass!"

    Thanks for the welcome everyone.

The more I read, the more confused I get. I know what I want, sort of, but which model has what feature and some of the lingo has me befuddled.

    Oh yeah....

You gonna have to get one of each model and try it out.

Or just try to go to one of the group hangs and try different ones till one fits just right.

I would like to do that, but work is a bear. I usually only have Saturday afternoon and Sunday off. Getting too far from home is tough.

I may just have to take the plunge and see how it goes. Right now, I am just so confused, I can't make a semi-educated guess.

Then there is the tarp. Then the Quilts. Then...... Oh boy. LOL

There are some great stickies here, but there needs to be a hammock calculator. Plug in your desired features and out pops the perfect hammock!

The folks around here will help you narrow your choices. Everybody is different, and what is suitable depends on where you hang.

For instance, nothing wring with a heavy blue tarp if you are testing in the back yard.

Me? I started with a Byers Moskito because I got a couple cheap for hanging around camp (I was still a ground dweller). It provided a good learning opportunity since we were did not know about Hammock Forums. I figured a lot out by myself early in the process.

It's much better up have help!

Later I bought some ENOs and some tarps. I still enjoy my ENO. I then skipped over to making my own DIY hammocks.

One of my camping friends loves his Hennessy since it had everything included.

Ask questions in the forum and the generous and most gracious people I have experienced will help you!

Welcome from upstate SC. You can always make a hammock. Cheap way to try it out.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
